Getting Off App

What We Do: Getting Off App is a research study evaluating the efficacy of a mobile app version of the group-based Friends Getting Off program. Like the group-based Friends Getting Off, the Getting Off App consists of a 24-session, gay-specific, cognitive behavioral therapy intervention designed for men who have sex with men who want to reduce or eliminate their methamphetamine use and sexual risk behaviors related to HIV.

Following the completion of an initial assessment, participants will download the Getting Off App onto their Android or iPhone smartphone and will have 30 days to complete the 24 sessions. Participants will be randomized to either receive the Getting Off App immediately, or after 30 days.

Participants will be asked to complete a baseline assessment in-person at the study site in Hollywood, and 4 or 5 follow-up assessments (based on randomization) that can be completed either in-person or online. Upon enrollment, and at the 3-, 6-, and 9-month follow-up assessments, participants will be given HIV/STI (sexually transmitted infection) test kits, which they can either self-administer at home and return through the mail (USPS), or come onsite and have a staff member help to administer the tests. Participants may earn up to $450 or $500 (based on randomization) in gift cards.

Enrollment: Closed.

Study participants are men who have sex with men who have used methamphetamine and own a compatible Android or iPhone smartphone. Potential participants must either screen online or call to screen for eligibility before they can participate in the study.

Hours: Weekdays 9:00AM - 5:30PM, with evening and weekend appointments based on availability.
